Jet Airways increases fuel surcharge

Jet Airways recently announced a fuel surcharge hike of US$4.13 per domestic ticket, adding burden on its customers.

The fuel hike became effective from September 17, 2011, and would be applicable on all the flights of Jet Airways as well as its affiliates, which includes Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite.

The decision follows a recent increase by state-owned oil companies in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The companies have hiked jet fuel prices by 2.5% to match international oil rates.

State-owned largest fuel retailer Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said that the ATF price at New Delhi’s IGI Airport has gone up by US$29.57 per kilolitre (kl) and is being sold at US$ 1,193.87 per kl. At Mumbai’s Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport, jet fuel price has gone up by US$30.52 per kl, and is being sold at US$1,209.66 per kl.

Recently on August 16 as well as September 1 this year, state-owned oil companies IOC, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum had made two rate cuts lowering jet fuel prices by US$32.80 per kl.

Jet Airways is India’s leading private carrier and offers flights to Mumbai, New Delhi and many domestic destinations. Besides, it also operates flights to 24 international destinations, including New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and several others.
