Le Meridien opens in downtown Indianapolis

The building at 123 S. Illinois Street in Indianapolis, which has been into existence for the past 90 years, is being opened as a hotel for the fourth time. The property has changed hands once again and is now a part of the renowned international hotel chain Le Meridien.

Nick Clark, General Manager of the newly-opened Le Meridien Indianapolis, said that now that the property has once again opened its doors for the visitors it will be ensured that its days of glory are brought back.

The iconic property was first opened as a 200-room Lockerbie Hotel in 1928. It was later on sold in 1936 and was renamed as the Warren. It was once again purchased during the early 1980s and redeveloped as a luxury hotel and was given the new name of The Canterbury Hotel. And, for the fourth time now the property has become a part of Le Meridien group and named as Le Meridien Indianapolis.

The interior of the building has been completely revamped. The exterior though has got minor updates only. The building is considered to be historic and has been rightly brought on the National Register of Historic Places.

The newly-opened Le Meridien Indianapolis hotel is among the 27 hotels presently in the Downtown area. All these hotels will together be offering a total of 7,168 rooms in the area.

Clark said that the room rates at Le Meridien Indianapolis will start from $129 to $149 per night. The room rates will however sharply rise to more than $400 for important events on weekends.
