Low Fares and Great Waves: Cabarete Beach
Sep 01, 2011
Cheap flights to the Dominican Republic are easy to find these days. This Caribbean nation has become a top vacation spot yet remains relatively inexpensive, and you can get cheap plane tickets to several of its airports. With cheap plane fares to Santo Domingo, Santiago or Puerto Plata, be sure to check out the towns along the Dominican Republic’s northern coast, where you’ll find white sand beaches, great water sports, and hip nightlife.
Cabarete here on the north coast can still be called a small town, but it is a big center for tourism and anything to do with water. This bay and its beaches are the windsurfing and kitesurfing capital of the Dominican Republic, and the skies and water make great photo opportunities with all the colorful boards and kites. You can take lessons for as little as an hour or as long as a few days. For a slower start, check out paddle boarding lessons on the nearby lagoon. Depending on the dates of the cheap plane fares you find, you might catch one of the many international windsurfing competitions held here, attracting surfers on flights to the Dominican Republic from all over the world. For more options, consider joining a surf camp, trying paragliding, or taking a scenic horseback ride down one of the beaches. Perhaps the best part of Cabarete is its temperatures. Like much of the Dominican Republic, the temperature in Cabarete stay between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit almost every day of the year, always accompanied by a light sea breeze. The beautiful weather in itself is almost worth the low fares to get to the D.R.
Cabarete has a lot of international flavor and nightlife. There is a fun Irish pub and a classy Mediterranean-style restaurant among the diverse dining options. Many beachfront restaurants and bars have seating right out on the sand, from hammocks to beach chairs to even canopy beds for guests to lounge and have a relaxing cocktail. There are, of course, plenty of souvenirs to find in Cabarete, and while you’re out on the beach local Dominicans will probably offer to sell you their homemade jewelry or snacks of freshly caught shrimp and oysters. Getting your hair braided Dominican-style by local ladies or having a manicure out on the beach are popular ways to get a lasting souvenir.
Although Cabarete is small enough to walk to most locations, if you need a lift, there are taxis, motorcycle taxis, and public transportation in vans. Cheap plane trips into Puerto Plata are the quickest way to get here, but any flights to Dominican Republic will put you no more than a few hours’ drive from this beautiful bay and beaches. So start your search for cheap tickets to Dominican Republic and get your beach on at Cabarete.
