SIA to drop direct service to Singapore from U.S. cites

Singapore Airline, which is renowned to offer luxurious experience to its customers on a variety of destinations worldwide, has disappointing news for its customers. The carrier will drop its nonstop services to Singapore from two cities of the United States. It is set to axe its direct service between Los Angeles and Singapore and Newark and Singapore.

Passengers booking business class flights to Singapore from Newark and Los Angeles will no more be able to travel direct to their destination with their favorite airline. The carrier plans to continue these operations however with a one-stop service. Experts suggest that this decision is going to cost the carrier its customers and business. Reports suggest that the airline will have to battle it out with other rivals competing on the same segment with a similar offering.

Reports suggest that the carrier’s capacity will drop by 16 percent, as it will lose about 22,000 weekly seats to competitors. This decision will also affect its position as one of the top airlines in Asia. At present, it is the fifth largest Asian airline in the United States and once it pulls out of its direct services, it will fall down to rank number nine. The carrier will lose premium seats in the U.S. by at least 26 percent. It is set to offer one-stop service from New York and Los Angeles to Singapore with a 409-seater A380 aircraft instead of 471-seater A380 plane.
