South African Airways new checked-baggage policy becomes effective
The new checked-baggage policy unveiled by South African Airways has now come into effect. The airline recently announced that it has introduced the new baggage policy considering the varied requirements of its customers in different markets worldwide.
The airline in a statement said that the new policy is now restricted to the number of pieces of baggage to be checked in by the passenger, instead of the total weight of the checked-in baggage. The new policy also outlines the number of pieces of baggage that a passenger in required to check in as well as weight restriction, which will however depend on the route and the class in which the passenger is traveling.
The airline disclosed that customers booking business class flights and traveling worldwide would be allowed to check-in two pieces of luggage each weighing up to 32 kg. The passengers traveling in Economy Class will be permitted to check-in two pieces of baggage at a maximum of 23 kg each.
Those customers purchasing business class tickets and traveling between Africa and South America would be allowed to carry two pieces of baggage each weighing up to 32 kg. For those booking business class seats and traveling between Africa and Europe/UK would be permitted to take along with them two pieces of luggage with each weighing up to 32 kg.
