United Airlines booking system computer glitch help customers book first class tickets to Hong Kong for $33

A computer glitch in United Airlines’ booking system brought a windfall for the customers taking flights to Hong Kong from New York.

The computer glitch helped the airline’s customers with reward miles to book return first class flights to Hong Kong for only $33 on the weekend.
A round-trip flight between Hong Kong and New York in first class is available for booking at $10,250 or 140,000 frequent flier miles. While, the return flight in business class between these two cities costs nearly $8,500 or 120,000 frequent flier miles.

Promptly acknowledging the online booking bungle, United Airlines has refused to honor the bargain-basement tickets.

The online bungle has cost the airline dearly. As soon as the news of the computer glitch went viral on social networking websites and blogs, scores of fliers promptly took advantage of this situation and snapped up the cheap tickets. The airline has, however, refused to divulge the number of customers who snapped up cheap tickets following this bungle.

The airline in a statement said that the online blunder has already been fixed and it will be honoring the cheap tickets of only those passengers who commenced their travels and need to get home.
