Virgin Australia and Etihad Airways shared lounge to open at Sydney airport in 2013

Virgin Australia recently announced it will be opening its shared lounge in association with Etihad Airways at Sydney International Airport in early 2013.

Both the airlines are on course to unveil their long-awaited joint lounge at Sydney International Airport early next year. A similar lounge is being planned by Virgin Australia and Etihad Airways for Melbourne International Airport.

A team from Etihad Airways is already visiting Sydney for this purpose and is inspecting the space being proposed by Sydney International Airport. 
The lounge is to come up at Sydney International Airport as a joint venture. To be built and operated by Virgin Australia and Etihad Airways, the lounge will be hosting passengers booking first class flights. Apart from this, the lounge will be also hosting business class passengers as well as high-status frequent flyers.

Currently, neither Virgin Australia nor Etihad Airways have their own separate facilities at Sydney International Airport or Melbourne International Airport, and both the carriers are instead dependant on Air New Zealand's Koru Club lounge for hosting their respective passengers.
