WestJet Airlines and El Al sign interline agreement for convenient travel

WestJet Airlines has signed an interline agreement with Israel’s national carrier El Al to ease passengers convenience and facilitating smooth travel of Canadian travelers to Israel. Besides connecting Canadian cities to Israel, the agreement also aims at boosting tourism to destinations connected by WestJet Airlines by Israelis.

Known as “interline agreement”, the deal was signed between Gregg Saretsky, President and CEO of Westjet Airlines, and Elyezer Shkady, President and CEO of El Al.

Dinah Kutner, General Manager of El Al Canadian office, said that the agreement will help travel agents to effectively sell Israel as a destination. Besides, the agreement will also help passengers to book flights to Tel Aviv and other Israeli destinations from locations outside Toronto.

The agreement is aimed at helping travelers from Vancouver, Calgary or other Canadian destinations to book flights to Toronto on WestJet Airlines and then on El Al to Israel. Toronto is the only Canadian destination of El Al. The passengers will be issued one ticket for their journey from Toronto to Israel, and their baggage will be transferred automatically to El Al’s aircraft to Toronto.

Kutner also said that El Al is particularly trying to attract passenger traffic from Montreal to Israel and is aggressively trying to make inroads. She said that a substantial Jewish population is found in Montreal/Ottawa corridor, and they have always wanted to fly El Al.
