WestJet and KLM to operate first codeshare flight Sept 26

WestJet and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have entered into a codeshare agreement and are all set to launch first codeshare flights from September 26, 2011.

A WestJet statement indicated recently that the codeshare agreement will allow KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to distribute and market WestJet run flights under KLM flight numbers.

The statement outlined that the customers of both the airlines will get enhanced travel options proving access to 30 domestic routes in Canada.

Gregg Saretsky, CEO of WestJet, said that the airline is happy to bring on board KLM as its first European codeshare partner. He hoped that the cooperation between WestJet and KLM will be strong, valuable and an everlasting one.

WestJet currently offers scheduled flight service to 71 cities throughout its Caribbean and North American network.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Operating Officer of KLM, said that the codeshare agreement with WestJet is an important step ahead aimed at increasing the number of flights and destinations, which it can offer through its 4 Canadian gateways.

Elbers said codeshare partnership with WestJet was a matter of pride as it has become its first European codeshare partner. The new arrangement with WestJet will provide KLM passengers access to 30 new Canadian routes, connecting with its flights to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal.
