Volaris to add 15 U.S. destinations over the next three years

Mexico’s second-largest carrier Volaris has indicated that it is planning to add 15 destinations in the United States over the next three years. Enrique Beltranena, Chief Executive Officer of Volaris, recently announced the airline’s plans after Volaris became the first carrier since 2011 to complete Mexico’s first initial public offering.

Beltranena said that the expansion in the United States is going according to the airline’s plans and in keeping with its growth plans in Mexico as well. He said that offering low fares have immensely helped Volaris in attracting customers in a big way and succeeded in weaning them away from other airlines.

Volaris, which is officially known as Controladora Vuela Cia. de Aviacion, said that adding U.S. destinations to its network would also help it build on its Mexican base. According to the latest data released by the airline, Volaris transported 23 percent of domestic passengers through July 2013. The airline has also almost doubled its market share in the past five years.

Established in 2006, Volaris operates out of its hub in Mexico City. The airline is presently operating flights to 11 cities in the United States, including Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and San Diego. Beltranena is however not ready to reveal the airline’s U.S. expansion plan in detail and the destinations it is planning to include in its network.
