Record passengers take WestJet Airlines flights this March

WestJet Airlines recently announced it has set a record by flying a large number of passengers in March 2012. The airline stated that WestJet Airlines flights carried a record number of passengers on robust demand for air travel.

The airline in a statement said that a record 104,000 passengers booked WestJet Airlines flights tickets in the month of March this year, leading to an increase of 9 percent. The airline further said that its capacity grew 7 percent y-o-y, as a result its load factor (average amount of seats filled on its planes) reached 86.2 percent, up 1.4 percent as compared to the same month in 2011.

Gregg Saretsky, Chief Executive of WestJet Airlines, expressed his happiness at the outcome and said that the airline is quite pleased with the market strength witnessed in March this year and system-wide demand remained healthy. He also said that the market has absorbed the airline’s growth and increased fare levels have significantly helped offset higher fuel costs.

An aviation travel expert in Canada said that his weekly fare survey confirmed that WestJet Airlines fares remain higher than a year ago, implying demand remains strong.
