WestJet Airlines to introduce Tablets instead of TVs on some flights

Passengers taking WestJet Airlines flights can now look forward to an enhanced in-flight entertainment experience.

WestJet Airlines recently announced it will be introducing pre-loaded tablets on some of its flights as a temporary solution to finding a permanent fix for its lackluster in-flight entertainment.

The airline in a statement said that it will start renting the tablets on two new Boeing 737s in June, as well as on another two aircrafts by the end of this year. The airline will be charging its passengers between $10 and $12 per piece for the service.

Marshall Wilmot, WestJet Airlines’ Vice-President of Product Development, said that the airline is currently in the process of evaluating its long-term in-flight entertainment strategy to understand what is feasible and should be done ultimately.

The airline’s live TV and pay-per-view in-flight entertainment option will be replaced by Samsung Galaxy tablets on these aircrafts. The tablets will be loaded with a combination of up to 10 new and still-in-theatre movies, 10 hours of TV shows and possibly games.
