WestJet Airlines to launch new regional carrier

WestJet Airlines recently disclosed that it will launch a new regional short-haul carrier to serve smaller destinations within Canada. The airline said that its plan has already been endorsed by majority of its workforce. The move is likely to further ratchet up the pressure on its bigger rival Air Canada.

The Alberta-based WestJet Airlines revealed that 91 percent of its 8,500 employees have voted in favor of its plan giving a strong endorsement to launch the short-haul airline as a wholly owned subsidiary. 

The company WestJet Airlines Ltd is likely to launch the regional carrier before the end of 2013. The company is already negotiating with two aircraft makers seeking to acquire a single fleet of turboprop planes to serve the new routes. The orders for turboprops are likely to be placed by mid-year.

WestJet Airlines flights are currently being operated within Canada and to mostly sun destinations in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean, offering incredible opportunities to the passengers to book WestJet tickets to these destinations.
