WestJet Airlines to operate regional service utilizing Bombardier Q400 aircraft

WestJet Airlines flights within Canadian destinations will now be operated with the help of Bombardier Q400 aircraft.

The airline recently announced it has selected the Bombardier Q400 to be the turboprop for its new regional carrier. The airline said that it prefers to operate its regional service on the Canadian-built plane, instead of the French-Italian ATR 72-600.

Gregg Saretsky, Chief Executive Officer of Calgary-based WestJet Airlines, said that his company will be ordering up to 45 of the Q400s over the next six years.

The Q400 aircrafts are assembled by Montreal-based aircraft maker Bombardier at its Downsview plant in Toronto.
Saretsky said that Q400 is quite impressive. He said that Bombardier Q400’s combination of range, speed and seat density is the best choice to meet the needs of the market.

WestJet Airlines has placed orders for 20 Q400s, with a further option to buy another 25 aircrafts. The airline is planning to launch the regional service in the second half of 2013.
