Air Canada to keep flying as MPs pass bill

Air Canada flights will continue to be operational as a legislation to prevent a work stoppage at Canada’s largest airline has been passed by the House of Commons after a noisy marathon debate recently in Canadian Parliament.

The bill, considered to be a legislative wall for preventing labor strife from turning into a strike or lockout that could ground thousands of travelers, is meant to keep Air Canada flying at all costs.

After being passed by the House of Commons, the bill will now go to the Senate for its final passage, and later on becoming a law.

The grounding of Air Canada flights could result in huge financial losses to the government and cost the economy nearly $22.4 million every week.

Air Canada is facing financial worries now and plans to start a low-cost carrier. The airline’s plans are being vehemently opposed by the pilots and ground handling staff as they fear that a number of jobs will be outsourced to other countries while Canadians will not be benefited.
