Air China expands by adding international routes

Air China has been witnessing rapid growth in the first half of the current year. The airline has added many international destinations to its schedule helping it grow at a fast pace. These destinations in fact comprise 40 percent of its total revenue.

The carrier has launched service to about 18 international destinations in the last three years. It commenced service to popular cities including Geneva, Houston, Mumbai, and Okinawa. These routes have added to its overseas operations by more than 20 percent.

The carrier a Star Alliance member is utilizing the opportunity to offer outbound services to its customers to cities across the globe. The number of travelers departing China has swelled by almost 75 percent between 2009 and 2012.

Most passengers fly on Air China tickets between China and Europe. The numbers are far ahead of international carriers like Lufthansa, British Airways, and Air France-KLM in terms of flights.

Recently the airline launched daily service between Chongqing and San Francisco with a stopover in Beijing. It also commenced four-times-a-week service on Beijing-Houston route.

The airline reported net earnings of $183 million between January and June 2013, which saw an increase of about 7.3 percent in the year-over-year period. The airline is flourishing due to its international offerings and is doing better than other players in the Chinese aviation sector.
