British Airways new labor deal averts Christmas strike

British Airways has successfully managed to avert a strike that threatened to make the festive Christmas season go awry bringing financial losses to the airline.

British Airways in a recent statement said that it has succeeded in reaching a new labor agreement with the workers union thus managing to avert the crisis threatening to stop flights to London from Calgary and Vancouver.

The members who were employed as ticket agents in Vancouver and Calgary had threatened to go on a strike from December 19, 2011, and were legally permissible to do so.

However, the workers union assured that British Airways flights to London Heathrow Airport from Calgary and Vancouver will not be disrupted over the Christmas period as the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers had signed a new three-year agreement with the airline.

The workers union had resolved to go on strike over monetary issues and mandatory overtime after the end of their shift.

British Airways currently operates one daily flight to London from Calgary as well as Vancouver.
