Cape Air to discontinue year-round service to Martha’s Vineyard

Cape Air recently announced that it was suspending off seasonal direct flights between Hyannis and Martha’s Vineyard. The airline made this announcement on its official website. The news is disappointing for the passengers who travel frequently on this route.

As per its decision it will discontinue service between the two cities beginning October 22, 2013. Customers will however, be able to book Cape Air flights to travel between these two destinations when the carrier resumes service on May 22, 2014.

The airline however, announced that service to Martha’s Vineyard from Boston, New Bedford, and Nantucket will continue to offer year-round service to the customers. The airline did not divulge much on the reason for its sudden decision.

This airline is the only passenger carrier, which operates year-round flights to Martha’s Vineyard Airport. Other carriers like Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways and US Airways run flights to and from the island, but none offer year-round serve.

The airline was established in the year 1988. It started operations by flying between Provincetown and Boston and gradually added new routes to its itinerary through the 1990s. It merged with Nantucket Airlines in 1994 and at present, offers hourly service between Nantucket and Hyannis.

Currently, It is in codeshare agreement with United Airlines, JetBlue and Delta. It comprises a fleet of two ATR 42-320 and seventy-four Cessna 402 aircrafts.
