China Airlines becomes world’s first airline to label its food

Taiwan’s national flag carrier China Airlines recently announced it has now become the first airline in the world to label its food with both calorie information and carbon footprint.

The airline in a statement said that it has initiated its labeling drive on Frankfurt-bound China Airlines flights departing from Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. The airline stated that the labeling drive is being carried out only on Frankfurt-bound flights so far. However, the labeling drive will be expanded to other international flights as well in the future.

The airline disclosed that the dishes labeled with calorie information and carbon footprint includes beef noodles, and chicken sausages with eggs and hash browns.

China Airlines disclosed that its Frankfurt-bound flights were particularly chosen for the labeling drive because aircrafts flying on the route are being currently used for a climate-monitoring project called the Pacific Greenhouse Gases Measurement (PGGM).
