China Airlines recently announced that it is now expanding its codeshare agreement with China Southern Airlines. Taiwan’s national carrier China Airlines has indicated that the codeshare service expansion with the Chinese carrier China Southern Airlines will be between Taoyuan and Urumqi to six weekly flights.
China Airlines is currently offering 111 flights every week to some 26 destinations in China. The Taiwanese carrier said that whether the passengers fly with China Airlines or China Southern Airlines, they will be able to enjoy greater flexibility in their itineraries along with more options and conveniences.
China Airlines and China Southern Airlines are members of SkyTeam alliance. Both the carriers entered into codeshare partnership in October 2010. The two airlines have ever since been providing codeshare flights between Taoyuan and eight destinations in China. These destinations include Shenyang, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Dalian, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Pudong and Guangzhou.
China Airlines and China Southern Airlines have now resolved that being members of the SkyTeam alliance they would continue to strengthen their partnership at all levels. Apart from the codeshare agreements, China Airlines and China Southern Airlines have also established the “Greater China Connection” rewards program along with other Chinese SkyTeam members China Eastern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. The rewards program is aimed at enhancing the use of shared resources among SkyTeam’s Greater China airlines and is also a significant development in cross-strait transportation. In fact, the two airlines have specifically expanded their partnership to provide cross-strait passengers with seamless connectivity and enhanced flight options.
