China Airlines Q1 net loss increases

Taiwan’s flag carrier China Airlines recently declared its operational results and was quite saddened at the outcome.

China Airlines, which is Taiwan’s largest carrier in terms of revenue, reported that its Q1 2012 net loss has widened to $32.07 million (940.3 million Taiwan dollars) from $12.93 million (379.1 million Taiwan dollars) a year earlier.

Providing further details, the airline said that the revenue for the three months ended March 31 edged 1.8 percent higher to $1.05 billion (30.88 billion Taiwan dollars) from $1.03 billion (30.86 billion Taiwan dollars) as compared to the same period in 2011.

The airline stated that its operating costs (including fuel cost) increased 4.4 percent to $1.05 billion (30.86 billion Taiwan dollars) from $1.0 billion (29.55 billion Taiwan dollars).

Meanwhile, China Airlines recently launched scheduled flights between Taipei Songshan Airport and Seoul Gimpo Airport. The airline is offering three weekly round-trip flights between the two cities, Taipei and Seoul, on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. A Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured with 8 Business Class seats and 150 Economy Class seats has been deployed on the new route.
