Finnair considers Australia a vital market, boost ticket sales

Finland’s national flag carrier Finnair recently said in a statement that it considers Australia to be a vital market. The airline’s statement has come at a time even as Finnair flights services continue to expand in the fast-growing Asian destinations.

The airline said that the sale of Finnair flights tickets to Australia has gone up, particularly in the premium segment. The airline said that the sale of its business class tickets have increased by 20 to 30 percent. However, the booking of seats in economy class has dropped by 5 percent.

Geoff Stone, Finnair’s Country Sales Manager for Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia, said that the airline has been doing particularly well and outperforming its peers in difficult retail conditions.

Currently, Finnair doesn’t operate its own aircraft to Australia. The airline stated that it has codeshare agreements with several carriers, including Qantas Airways, British Airways, Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways. The codeshare agreements help Finnair to carry its passengers into its Asian destinations.
