The Square has a lot of history behind it, with Mao Zedong declaring the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on 1 October 1949. The name of the Square translates to the Gate of Heavenly Peace in English and is often used for formal state events and parades. On the western side of the Square is the Great Hall of the People, which is the country seat of legislature, and on the eastern side of the Square are two museums - the Chinese Historical Museum and Museum of the Revolution. Both the museums are worth a visit.

Families with children will enjoy a visit to the zoo, which is home to numerous animals that are native to China, including the panda. In addition, the city is famous for its many parks and manmade lakes. These are good places to rest and enjoy the greenery in a concrete jungle. The most popular park in the city is Jingshan Park, which stretches over an area of more than 230,000 square meters. The park is a great place to relax and have a picnic.

Make sure to take time out to visit the Confucius Temple, which was constructed in 1302. The temple is located at Guozijian Street and is spread over an area of 20,000 square meters.

Like most metropolitan cities, even Beijing has its own nightlife that comes to life once the sun sets. The best lounges and bars in the city are located in the Luoguxiang Bar Street. The street is filled with chic and trending bars, shops and restaurants.
