Overview of dining scene
Most menus at the city’s numerous restaurants prominently feature meat dishes, such as wild boar, venison and beef roasts. The meat dishes are usually served with thick noodles or sides of potato. Some of the popular Frankfurt specialties worth trying out include apfelwein and handkas mit music. The apfelwein is a refreshing apple cider served in a traditional mug. The handkas mit musik is a quite string regional cheese. The Frankfurter sausages are widely available is all the eateries in the city. These highly delicious smoked pork sausages are usually served with bread and mustard. They are much tastier than the American hotdogs. Most sides of potatoes or boiled eggs are usually served with Green sauce.

Food-oriented districts
Frankfurt has many food-oriented districts. If you are visiting downtown then finding a good meal is not at all difficult. If you are looking for a fine outdoor dining, then consider visiting the city’s great neighborhood Fressgass (Grosse Bockenheimer Strasse). The restaurants here offer all kinds of cuisines ranging from Middle Eastern to Southern European and East Asian. The street cafes are simply the best to enjoy less expensive snacks.

Think of visiting the Sachsenhausen district. This is one of the best places in Frankfurt to enjoy great meals and drinks. Every other shop in this food-oriented district has a bar, a take-out shop or a café. You can look forward to a variety of cuisines. Among other areas worth visiting for some fabulous food include the Zeil shopping area, Berger Strasse and the Romerberg area. The city is also renowned for its famous cider pubs called Ebbelwoikneipen. The Sachsenhausen district has plenty of them and you will have an enjoyable experience at one of these many pubs. Frankfurt is also quite popular for its coffee houses. These are undoubtedly great places to interact with the locals and know about their lifestyle. Here’s a note of caution for you. Whenever you are visiting a restaurant in the city for some fabulous meals, you must carry enough money with you. The restaurants here charge a huge 19 percent VAT on food bills. You just also can’t simply walk out of the restaurants after paying your food bills. You will also be required to pay a tip of nearly 10 percent to the waiters serving your meals as well.

The food though might be expensive at the restaurants in Frankfurt, they are nevertheless quite delicious and you won’t mind spending more on a real treat that awaits you at the magnificent city of Frankfurt.
