Houston, with a population of over 2 million, is the capital of Texas and fifth most populated city in the US. When it comes to celebrations, Houston is the place for just about any and every event imaginable!

Flights to Houston from around the country and beyond, stop at the final destination of George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Passengers come in large numbers, making this landing field the tenth busiest on the entire North American continent.  As inferred, accessing the ticket air line is always a fight.

One of the most renowned events of the city is the Texas Renaissance Festival. The eight-weeks of this carnival in the theme park are about entertainment, period food, music and cultural shows.

A large number of participants wait for the annual Hempstead Texas Watermelon Festival, held in July. For all the watermelon-lovers, a line of interesting events such as auctions and the watermelon carnival are surely to impress you.

Talking about the kids-friendly attractions, the much talked about event of ‘Dinosaurs! At Houston Zoo’ is a complete winner. They may be extinct today, but the dinosaurs are back in town. The event takes place from May to September, featuring these animatronic creatures moving about and even spitting out water! Then there is the Children’s Film Festival, enchanting the little ones with its magic. Fairy tales and fancy fables, vibrant musicals and colorful animations...this is a dream-come-true for kids!

A diverse range of the city’s favorite bands come to perform at the ‘Bands on Sand’ concert, along the Galveston. Fireworks lighten the night sky, and fans jam along. Some of the performing artists include Vertigo, Zack King and The Line Up.

Kayaking just got better! The Buffalo Bayou Regatta Partnership Kayak Trip gives mini-kayaking lessons and recreational kayaks through the afternoon. This 26-mile stretch starts from Woodway, where enthusiasts paddle down through the lush bayou, as the explore Houston’s urban oasis.

The tradition of Texas, rodeo, has a three-week long gala at Reliant Park every year. The livestock show is followed by a Rodeo Parade. There are 20 championships, concluded by sizzling performances by music rock stars. This event takes place in March.

There is an International Film Festival which blends documentaries, film premieres, screen plays and even TV commercials. Then, the International Festival, attended by over a million people, has kiosks, food stalls, interesting exhibits and around 1800 live-performers.

October is the month of cultural festivities and ghost walks. Ghostly figures give tours around the town, visiting haunted houses and sites.  Dia de los Muertos is celebrated to honor and celebrate the lives of close ones who have died. The event includes traditional celebrations and crafts.

The magic of holidays glistens at the Moody Gardens Festival of Lights. The city is covered with millions of lights. The winter land can be seen with gingerbread houses made, Santa Claus, holiday shopping schemes and much more.
