Visiting the ‘haunted’ Reina Sofia Museum

The building in which the Reina Sofia Museum is currently housed is over 200 years old. This building was previously a hospital. Some of the employees as well as visitors have reported paranormal activity taking place at the museum for the past several years now. They claim to have seen some strange sights during the dead of night. Strange voices and noises have also been heard in the museum’s central part.

The building, which was erstwhile 18th century hospital, was remodeled and later on transformed into a museum in the year 1992. The building has been beautifully remodeled. Two panoramic glass elevators located here, leave the visitors mesmerized. In 2005, an extension to the musuem was also added. Jean Nouvel, a French architect, had designed this extension. The Reina Sofia Museum is officially called “Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía”.
 
The museum is presently home to a vast collection of modern and contemporary art. The building in which the museum is housed comprises of four floors. Two floors are exclusively dedicated to hosting temporary exhibits, while the remaining two floors showcase permanent collection, covering Minimal, Pop and Abstract Art movements among others.

The prime attraction at the museum is Picasso’s most famous 20th century painting called “Guernica”. It has been in the museum since 1992. Picasso’s another renowned painting is “Woman in Blue”. Apart from Picasso, there are other collections by famous painters here as well.

Dali and Miró are the two world-famous artists whose collections have been prominently showcased. “Portrait II”, an enigmatic creation by Miró, is the cynosure of all eyes. It is known for its surrealist elements. “Landscapes at Cadaqués”, Salvador Dali’s amazing masterpiece, is also a must-see attraction at this unique Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid.
