Let’s take a look at some of the great hotspots in Puerto Rico that promises a stellar experience with plenty to see and do during your holidays.

El Morro

A visit to the El Morro fortress is simply unthinkable when planning sightseeing in Old San Juan. This magnificent structure on San Juan island aptly encapsulates the role of a guardian played by Puerto Rico of the New World. The majestic walls of the fortress provide a feeling of the awesome power of defence that the fortress commanded during its heydays. The fortress has a glorious military history as it protected San Juan for over 400 years starting from the Spanish conquest in 1500s to the end of World War II in the 20th century. El Morro, the most recognizable landmark of San Juan, is also known by its original name ‘Castillo de San Felipe del Morro’.

Río Camuy Cave Park

The Rio Camuy Cave Park is spectacular and one of the best places to visit in Puerto Rico. This is essentially Camuy River’s Park of the Caverns. It is also the world’s third largest cave system with at least 18 entrances discovered so far. Before you set out to discover this awesome natural wonder you will be first of all shown a video. After a virtual display, you will be then taken on a trolley to the main cave’s 170-feet-high entrance, also called ‘Cueva Clara’. Here you will find plenty of stalactites and stalagmites. The guides of the park will be there at hand to acquaint you regarding the caverns’ ecosystem during your tour. The tour will end at a natural drain called ‘Sumidero Tres Pueblos’ and at its end you will be able to get fascinating views of the underground Camuy River. If you extra adventurous then you should try eco-excursion by free jumping, body rafting, mud-sliding, and rappelling down one of the cave’s mouth.

El Yunque

The El Yunque National Forest, also called ‘The Anvil’, is the U.S. National Forest System’s only tropical rainforest. This beautiful mountainous terrain is 2-hour drive from San Juan. If you want an escape from the resorts and beaches of the city, then this place is a must visit for you. You can look forward to many adventure activities such as diving under a waterfall, hiking, and walking leisurely soaking up the abundant flora and fauna of the rainforest. This most biologically diverse rainforest is spread in an area of 29,000 acres.

Vieques Biobay

Visiting Vieques Biobay is among the most fascinating experiences that the beautiful island nation of Puerto Rico has to offer. It is one of the world’s most bioluminescent bays. The best time to visit here is on a moonless night. You will be amazed to see your oars seem to be glowing green in the water. This can be experienced during kayaking through mangrove trees into the Mosquito Bay on Vieques Island. The underwater lightning happens when countless microscopic single-cell organisms called dinoflagellates release energy after getting agitated when coming into contact with fish, oars or even people thus emitting light.
