Frontier Airlines focus city experiment in Colorado Springs fails

Frontier Airlines short-lived “focus city” experiment in Colorado Springs has failed. The airline has now decided to reallocated Frontier Airlines flights capacity in Colorado Springs flying from Denver. By doing so the airline hopes to keep the company sustainably profitable.

The airline attributed the failure of its short-lived “focus city” experiment in Colorado Springs because it grossly underestimated that fact that the local passengers driving to Denver for a wide option of inexpensive flights were willing to be its loyal customers. The airline said that it was proved wrong in its assessment because its success was short-lived.

Frontier Airlines embarked on ambitious plans about a year ago by launching nonstop flights from Colorado Springs to Seattle, Portland, Phoenix and Los Angeles as part of its strategy to make Colorado Springs a test market for tiny hubs in smaller cities. The flights were launched in mid-May and the airline reported strong sale of Frontier Airlines flight tickets during that time.

However, the airline was forced to offer discounted airfares because of sharp decline in flights bookings in the fall. Frontier Airlines has already indicated that it will be stopping its flights to San Diego from February 21 and to Orlando from February 25. The airline will also be curtailing its operations to Phoenix and Los Angeles as well.
