Hawaii Airlines adds sixth new Airbus A330-200 to its fleet

Hawaii Airlines recently announced it has included a sixth new Airbus A330-200 to its fleet. The airline has named its A330-200 aircraft as ‘Manaiakalani’ or Maui’s hook, the Hawaiian name for the constellation of Scorpio.

Hawaiian Airlines flights on its new 294-seat A330-200 aircraft started operating between Los Angeles and Honolulu from March 13, 2012.

The airline has named all of its new A330s after a constellation or star primarily used for celestial navigation by the ancient Polynesians in making their voyages across the Pacific to Hawaii.

The airline in a statement said that its other three A330s will be joining the fleet this year. The aircrafts will be delivered one per month in April, May and June.

By the end of June this year, there will a total of nine A330 aircraft in Hawaiian Airlines’ fleet. The airline also disclosed that it will be including 13 additional A330s between 2013 and 2015.

The new Airbus A330-200 aircrafts will be adding capacity to the airline’s daily nonstop service between Osaka-Honolulu starting from March 31, 2012 as well as Sydney-Honolulu starting from April 24, 2012. The airline will also be using A330 to operate New York-Honolulu service starting from June 5, 2012.
