Hawaiian Airlines announces Q1 results, net income surges $7.3 million

Hawaiian Airlines recently announced its operational results for the first quarter of 2012. The airline was quite optimistic about the outcome and sounded upbeat. 

Hawaiian Airlines flights put up a strong showing in Q1 this year. The airline revealed that its net income surged to $7.3 million from about $900,000 as compared to the same period in 2011. The airline’s operating revenue increased to $435.5 million during Q1 from $365.5 million during January-March 2011. The airline earned 27 percent of its revenue from international flights in the first quarter, up from 9 percent in Q3 2010 before it started flying to Asia.

Mark Dunkerley, CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, said that the results were much better than what the company had expected earlier at the beginning of this year. He said that the airline will continue expanding into international markets as well as growing its domestic business, and will remain on course to diversify its revenue base.

Hawaiian Airlines has introduced flights to Japan and South Korea as well as increased its frequency to Australia in the past 18 months. The airline stated that it will launch new nonstop flights from Honolulu to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport in June this year.
