Iberia travel alternatives in offing to lessen strike impact

Iberia has assured its passengers that it will do everything it can to ward off imminent strike impact its pilots have threatened this December. The International Airlines Group-owned Iberia said that it has already signed agreement with 30 transport companies for offering travel alternatives to its passengers likely to be affected by pilots’ strike on December 18 and 29, 2011.

Iberia pilots have threatened to go on strike on December 18 and 29 to protest the launch of a new low-cost carrier by the company.

The airline has decided to launch a new low-cost carrier ‘Iberia Express’ next year. The launch of the new carrier is aimed at improving competitiveness against its no-frills rivals, such as easyJet and Ryanair.

Iberia pilots have expressed fears that the launch of Iberia Express will result in job losses and create bad conditions for the airline's employees.

The deal with 30 transport companies will help Iberia to ward off the impending crisis to be faced by the passengers and minimize the impact of pilots’ strikes.
