India’s largest private carrier Jet Airways recently signed a codeshare agreement with Italy’s national carrier Alitalia. The expansion of the codeshare partnership between the two airlines is aimed at providing seamless connectivity to the passengers to easily explore the places of tourist and commercial interest in both India and Italy. The airline started selling its codeshare flight tickets starting from July 1. The travel started from July 5, 2014.
The codeshare agreement will now enable Jet Airways to place its code on flights operated by Alitalia from Rome to Abu Dhabi and beyond to other Italian cities such as Verona, Venice, Turin, Naples, Florence and Bologna.
Alitalia will similarly be able to put its code on flights operated by Jet Airways from Abu Dhabi to major Indian cities such as Kochi, Mumbai and Delhi. The airline will also utilize the codeshare pact to place its code on Jet Airways-operated flights beyond Delhi and Mumbai to other destinations in India including Udaipur, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Amritsar.
The codeshare pact will now allow the passengers of both the airlines to travel on a single ticket. The members of the two airlines frequent flyer programs “MilleMiglia” and “Jet Privilege” will also be able to earn and redeem miles on each other’s network when traveling on codeshare flights.
Gaurang Shetty, Jet Airways’ Senior Vice President – Commercial, said that the two countries share a strong relationship, whether it is commercial trade, business tourism or leisure. The codeshare pact between the two airlines is a significant step and will further deepen the relations.
