A possible future merger between JetBlue Airways and American Airlines is likely given the close relationship the two carriers had enjoyed last year, speculated Caribbean specialists recently.

AMR Corporation, the parent company for American Airlines, lately filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection thus giving rise to the speculation.

Majority of experts consider US Airways to be among top favorites to enter into some sort of tie-up with the ailing American Airlines. However, there are still some experts who strongly feel that JetBlue Airways and American Airline’s reciprocal frequent flyer program last November is proof enough that both the carriers can easily work along with each other.

This also raises fresh hopes among JetBlue Airways loyalists who are desperately looking for additional flights to the Caribbean.

JetBlue Airways’ deep affection for the Caribbean region is no longer a secret. The airline has always wanted to fly to every island in the region. Currently, JetBlue Airways operates flights to Barbados, St. Lucia, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Kingston, Saint Maarten, Aruba, Turks and Caicos.

With 70 daily departures, the Caribbean region accounts for 24 percent of business for JetBlue Airways presently.
