JetBlue Airways order for 40 A320neos aircrafts finalized

JetBlue Airways recently announced that it has finalized an order for 40 new Airbus A320neo (new engine option) aircrafts. The airline had approached with the new order during the Paris Air Show in June.

The airline is, however, yet to approve its engine selection for the new aircrafts. JetBlue Airways by finalizing this contract has also approved the conversion of earlier ordered 30 Airbus A320s to the larger Airbus A321 model. The acquisition of the new Airbus A321 models will be featuring enhanced wingtip devices called Sharklets. JetBlue Airways has currently ordered a total of 40 Airbus A320neo, 30 A321s and 22 A320s.

According to the aviation company Airbus, the A320neo family is among the fastest-selling airliner ever. The company said that it has so far received orders for more than 1,200 aircrafts ever since it launched the re-engined A320 family in December last year. A top Airbus official said that the new changes will result in a 15% fuel burn reduction. The annual carbon dioxide reduction will thus be 3,600 metric tons per aircraft.
