Lufthansa now shifting focus to biofuels

In future, Lufthansa flights would take to the skies using biofuels. Europe’s largest airline Lufthansa is showing a keen interest in sustainability and would make extensive efforts to incorporate biofuels in the aviation industry.

Lufthansa recently tied up with Algae Tec, a company specializing in the production of biofuel. Both of them would be working towards the production of biofuels and incorporating it into the aviation industry.

The airline had earlier experimented with hydrogen fuel, and still continues to be experimenting with this to some degree even today. However, the airline has of late began shifting its focus to biofuels.

The airline in a statement said that the company Algae Tec would be responsible for producing biofuel, which would later on converted into the jet fuel to be used in the aircrafts operated by Lufthansa.

Lufthansa said that Algae Tec has the largest facility of its kind in the world and is capable of providing much of the jet fuel to be used by the aircrafts in the airline’s fleet on a daily basis.
