Qantas Airways adopts Apple iPhones instead of Blackberry Smartphones

Qantas Airways flights executives will now be provided Apple iPhone devices instead of Blackberry Smartphones.

Qantas Airways recently announced its executives will not be using Research In Motion’s Blackberry Smartphones now. The airline has instead adopted Apple iPhone devices for its 1,300 corporate-sponsored smartphones.

The iPhone, which is now being increasingly favored by Qantas Airways executives, is expected to help the airline save millions of dollars in network support.

According to the airline, the transition to iPhone from Blackberry is a part of broader mobility strategy which will help the airline in huge cost savings once it is complete.

Paul Jones, Chief Information Officer of Qantas Airways, said that the Apple iPhone devices offer a user-friendly interface. The users also have simple and easy access to emails, calendars and contacts. The iPhone also meets all the security requirements of the airline.

Jones also said that the airline is likely to provide complete Google Android support for crew member devices. The airline calls this program ‘Bring-Your-Own’ device program.
