Qantas Airways to fend off Virgin Australia challenge by boosting domestic flights

Qantas Airways is bracing to safeguard its turf amid a stiff challenge being posed by its rival Virgin Australia.

The airline recently said in a statement that Qantas Airways flights on its domestic routes will be boosted further.

Australia’s national carrier has made it apparent that it will vigorously protect its 65 percent share of the market by boosting domestic flights and fend off the severe challenge being posed to it by Virgin Australia.

Qantas Airways flights tickets will now be available more than before as the carrier will be adding seats between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, its busiest routes, in the year starting from July 1, 2012.

The airline further said that the delivery of two Airbus A380s is being deferred to help cut capital spending by $410 million (A$400 million) to $1.85 billion (A$1.9 billion) in the year ending June 2013. The delivery of the two new A380s will be delayed until the year ending June 2017 from early 2013.
