Qantas Airways unveils new baggage policy

Australia’s flag carrier Qantas Airways recently announced a change in its baggage policy from weight to piece and weight system.

The airline said in a statement that it will bring its new baggage policy into effect from May this year.

The airline will be changing its baggage policy from a weight system to a piece and weight system for its international checked baggage. The airline says this will simplify the process and make it easy for passengers.

The new checked baggage policy will be applicable to passengers booking all international Qantas Airways flights as well as oneworld partner flights with a QF number on or after May 2, 2012.

According to the airline, economy passenger weights will continue to remain unchanged at a limit of 23 kg for non-frequent flyer bronze customers under the new policy. However, passengers booking Qantas Airways flights tickets in Economy Class will be restricted to traveling with just one bag.

The airline will allow two items of up to 23 kg each to its Premium Economy passengers, while three pieces of up to 32 kg each will be allowed for passengers traveling in First and Business Class.
