Spirit Airlines Reports Increase In December 2012 Traffic

In its preliminary result, Spirit Airlines indicated a growth of 30.6 percent in December 2012 traffic as compared to December 2011. The airlines also witnessed increase of 27.6 percent in its capacity.

Load factor in December 2012 increased by 1.9 points when compared to December 2011 and was 84.7 percent. The airline however in Q4 of 2012 saw a decline of 7 to 8 percent in its total revenue per ASM (RASM). The main reason for this decline was Hurricane Sandy, which reduced the Q4 revenue by nearly $25 million.

The cost per available seat mile (CASM) of 2012's fourth quarter was calculated between 10.00 cents and 10.05 cents. The airlines also reported that its CASM ex-fuel for the quarter ranged between 5.90 cents and 5.95 cents, which was definitely in-line with the airlines’ former direction.
