Aer Lingus Nonstop Dublin-SFO flight takes off

Aer Lingus has finally started operating its nonstop Dublin-San Francisco route. Its maiden flight set off from Dublin airport at 1220 hours and landed in San Francisco Airport at 1520 hours.

Served by an Airbus A330-200 this service will be operated five times a week. This service is a part of the transatlantic development plan for the year 2014. Under this plan, Aer Lingus will offer nonstop flights to Toronto and nearly double the frequency on its flights to New York and Boston from Shannon airport.

Aer Lingus’s Chief Executive, Christoph Mueller said that this is a special moment for all of us. As Dublin-San Francisco service is a major component of our transatlantic expansion plan and also because we have resumed this service after nearly five years. This service will play a major role in the Irish economic system in terms of both tourism and business.

A lot of tech companies like Apple, LinkedIn, and Google have established their European HQ’s in Ireland. This has made Dublin a second home for the techies of Silicon Valley. And since there were no direct flights between the two cities, Aer Lingus decided to resume service and offer smoother connectivity between the Dublin and San Francisco.

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) Chief Executive, Kevin Tolan said that all of us at Dublin airport are extremely delighted with the launch of this direct service. Launch of SFO service paired with increase in seat capacity of other transatlantic flights will result in a 17 percent increase in seats to North America this season, which will be nearly 32,000 additional seats. He further said that all of us working here will function closely with Aer Lingus to promote and market this new service.
