Aeromexico begins new flights on Mexico City-Rio de Janeiro route

Mexico’s flagship carrier Aeromexico has launched new flights between Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. The flights between the two destinations became operational from June 29, 2014. The direct flights are being operated four times every week. The airline aims to offer increased options to its customers for seamlessly connecting between Mexico and Brazil.

With the launch of new flights, Aeromexico has now become the first Mexican carrier to connect Mexico City with the key Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The flights will help the travelers to connect to various destinations in Asia, Europe and North America. The new Mexico City-Rio de Janeiro will also connect Mexican travelers to nearly 10 cities in Brazil through Brazil’s GOL airline.

The launch of direct route between Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City establishes the close bonding between the two countries and work towards further enhancing the culture, education, investment, trade and tourism relations between Brazil and Mexico.

Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism said that the country was Mexico’s top tourist market in Latin America in 2013. Brazil also ranked fifth most visited tourist destination in the world after the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Spain. A data released by the Ministry of Tourism also indicated that the number of tourists from Brazil to Mexico has registered a significant growth in recent years. The increase in the Brazilian tourist arrivals was at 267,507 in 2013 from 78,026 in 2005. The increase thus recorded was at 242.84 percent. The increase of Brazilian tourists to Mexico can also be attributed to the agreement between the two countries exempting visas for tourists of either country effective from May 16, 2013.
