Aeromexico has announced it will be launching new direct flights between its main hub Mexico City and Mineta San Jose International Airport from next summer. The flights on the new San Jose-Mexico City route will be operated starting June through August 2018. The airline will be deploying a Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured with a carrying capacity of a total of 180 passengers to serve the two destinations.
A spokesperson of Aeromexico while providing details of flight schedule said that the outbound flight will depart from Mexico City at 9:35 am local time and reach San Jose around lunchtime. After a brief interval the return flight will take off from San Jose at 1:40 pm local time and land in Mexico City at 8 pm local time. The flight duration will be of 3 hours 30 minutes.
With the launch of its flights to San Jose, Aeromexico will be serving its sixth nonstop destination to California. The other Californian destinations being currently served by Aeromexico include San Diego, Los Angeles, Ontario, Fresno and San Francisco. Moreover, this will also be San Jose’s third nonstop route to Mexico. Presently, San Jose is being served with direct flights from Cabo San Lucas by both Soutwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Apart from this, airlines such as Aeromexico, Volaris and Alaska Airlines are also conducting direct flights services from San Jose to Guadalajara.
Media reports said that this is for the first time in nearly a decade that San Jose is being connected with direct flights from Mexico City. The now-defunct Mexicana Airlines served the two cities with direct flights between 2005 and 2007. And, that too the flights on the route were conducted only few times in a month by Mexicana Airlines. However, it was in the year 2010 that Mexicana Airlines had to finally shut down.
