Air New Zealand to replenish business class with high-end wines

Air New Zealand wants to improve the range of wine being offered to its business class fliers. The airline has decided to spend nearly $1 million for this.

The range of wine being offered in business class cabins has changed during the past 18 months, and even more changes are in the offing. Bruce Parton, Chief Operations Officer of Air New Zealand, said that it will start offering a range of super-premium wines to its premium customers from next year. The airline has already spent up to $6 million per year on wine for all its passengers.

The revamp exercise has already seen the airline spending about $500,000 extra on 20 to 30 high-end wines to be offered in business class.

Meanwhile, Air New Zealand has been named “Airline of the Year 2016” by a renowned safety and product rating review website. The airline has won the top award for the third consecutive year. The airline was acknowledged for its award-winning in-flight innovations, environmental leadership, operational safety, record-breaking financial performance, and keeping its staff highly motivated thus enabling it to become an industry trendsetter. Air New Zealand was also presented awards for ‘Best Premium Economy Class’ and ‘Best Economy Class’.

The citation said: “Air New Zealand has become an airline of first choice and given the country’s size and the airline’s location, its performance has also been quite stunning. By maintaining focus on its staff and keeping them motivated, the airline’s performance has been quite outstanding indeed. Moreover, the airline’s innovation has been impressive and still continues to be so.”
