American Airlines adds 8 new routes

American Airlines along with its merger partner US Airways announced the launch of 8 new nonstop routes this fall. The airline will add these routes from its major hubs to small and medium-sized cities.

All the 8 routes will be operated under the US Airways Express and American Eagle brand names and will be served by smaller regional jets. All the new added routes will operate out of its hubs at Chicago O'Hare, Phoenix, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Dallas/Fort Worth. Scheduled for a fall launch, the new routes will service to five new destinations namely Evansville and Fort Wayne in Indiana, Cleveland, Grand Rapids in Michigan and the first time addition Bismarck in North Dakota. Both American Airlines and US Airways continue to integrate their route maps as part of their merger deal.

VP network and schedule planning for American Airlines Chuck Schubert said we are working towards integrating the air routes of both the airlines. We are committed to expand our domestic routes and to offer better connectivity to travelers living in small and medium-sized markets. By adding more regional routes, we are proving our travelers better access to our global network, comprising of more than 330 destinations in 50 countries across the globe. The major highlight of this expansion is our first-time service to Bismarck, North Dakota.

Bismarck, North Dakota
To be launched on October 2, this city will get one direct roundtrip flight from Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O'Hare. Both the routes will be served by Embraer ERJ 145 regional jet to be operated by American Eagle.

Grand Rapids, Michigan
Gerald R. Ford International Airport will be served by both Philadelphia and Charlotte from September 3. Both the routes will complement the existing service to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O'Hare. Until the merger between the two airlines is complete both the routes will be served by Bombardier regional jets to be operated by US Airways' regional affiliate.

Fort Wayne, Indiana
This northern Indiana city will get direct one daily flight to Charlotte and two direct daily flights to Philadelphia. Service on both the routes will begin from October 2.
