American Airlines and US Airways merger highly likely, may push up ticket prices

The prospect of the merger of two leading US carriers, American Airlines and US Airways, is becoming stronger, according to aviation industry experts, who are growing more confident.

Media reports recently said that airline analysts are quite confident that the anticipated merger will finally happen in future, but at the same time have expressed fears that the prices of air tickets will go up. Though, the merger won’t have a big impact on Las Vegas’ flight schedules.

Many jobs could be saved because there’s little competitive crossover between American Airlines and US Airways, particularly in the Las Vegas market, analysts have said. US Airways and American Airlines also don’t compete with each other on a single route at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport.

Currently, US Airways operates 21 daily flights from Las Vegas to Phoenix, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport. While, American Airlines operates 25 daily flights to US Airways hubs in Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.
