American Airlines recently announced it has entered into a codeshare agreement with China’s Hainan Airlines, and will launch new codeshare flights beginning March 25, 2012.
The launch of codeshare flights is aimed at providing significant growth opportunities and seamless connections for travelers for booking air tickets and taking flights to either US or China.
According to the codeshare agreement, American Airlines will be able to display its flight code on Hainan Airlines flights between Seattle and Beijing, as well as on flights beyond Beijing to Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Kunming and Urumqi.
Similarly, Hainan Airlines will be allowed to display its flight code on American Airlines flights between Chicago and Shanghai and Beijing, Los Angeles and Shanghai, as well as on flights to and from 12 other cities in the US.
The codeshare agreement American Airlines and Hainan Airlines has also enabled American Airlines to significantly increase its presence throughout Asia.
American Airlines is currently operating nonstop flights services in three US-China markets, including Chicago O’Hare-Shanghai, Chicago O’Hare-Beijing and Los Angeles-Shanghai.
Hainan Airlines is presently operating more than 2,800 weekly flights to various cities throughout China, as well as to other destinations in Asia, Africa, Europe, Middle East and North America. The airline offers more than 400 weekly flights, including service to more than 60 Chinese cities from its Beijing hub.
