American Airlines planning to shut down US Airways flights by Oct

The curtains will finally come down on US Airways by the end of this year. In its post-merger effect, American Airlines is planning to fold up US Airways after more than 75 years of its services.

American Airlines in a statement said that the process to wind up US Airways operations could start as soon as July. The final departure would be around October after completion of the process over a 90-day period.

A spokesperson of the airline said that the gradual fade-out plan has been designed to avoid technological glitches and massive flight delays. By implementing the gradual phase-out plan the airline wants to ensure that the similar experiment of United Airlines isn’t repeated when Continental Airlines merged with it. The airline said that United Airlines had to confront massive flight delays after it abruptly switched to Continental Airlines’ computer systems in 2012.

Media reports said that during the final merger of two airlines the trickiest part is adopting of a single reservations system. The reports said that the flights being currently operated by US Airways will disappear slowly and will be finally replaced by American Airlines flights after being integrated in a single reservations system.

American Airlines has assured the customers that the rates of flight tickets will not be affected in any way after the disappearance of US Airways. The merger of US Airways with American Airlines has now created American Airlines Group, which will be the largest airline operator in the world.

Five big airlines in the United States have been eliminated because of mergers ever since 2005. Presently, more than 80 percent of the air travel market in the U.S. is being controlled by only four companies.
