American Airlines to begin service on JFK-Tokyo Haneda route

Considering the rise in corporate demand, American Airlines will soon start its flight service on the New York-Tokyo route. The services from New York to Tokyo, Haneda, will commence from 18th February 2011 and from Haneda, Tokyo to New York from 20th February 2011.

Haneda is just 30 minutes away from Tokyo. However, the significant move by the airline came due to an increase in the business travel demand.

"We are seeing a nice improvement in overall demand that's correlating with the economy improving. No one's doing any high fives yet but we're certainly encouraged by the more recent trend," said Jim Carter, vice president of the eastern division sales at America.

The new move is the follow up of the Open Skies agreement, which was signed in October 2010 between United States and Japan to liberalize the aviation market.

The airline is expecting the new service will definitely intrigue most of the corporate. The airline is also looking forward to expand its network in China.

After the 2009 downturn, the air traffic is rebounding back to normal and airlines are now spreading their service in the entire US and international markets, which have started showing excellent growth rate.

The airline said that it has been into the process of adding 31 more flights on 13 new routes that will operate from New York to the other cities of the world. The airline has also invested USD 30 million on the New York’s JFK and LaGuardia terminals.

Carter said the new Haneda service would make American's oneworld alliance, which includes Japan Airlines and Qantas Airways, "much more relevant" in Asia.
