American Airlines to offer bonus miles to business class flyers

American Airlines has decided to reward its premium customers who book flights frequently. The airline will be reconfiguring its frequent flyer program next year and will be rewarding its customers booking first and business class flights.

The airline will be launching a year-long promotion aimed at benefiting its frequent flyer program members traveling in both American Airlines and US Airways.

Media reports quoting a spokesperson of American Airlines Group said that the AAdvantage as well as US Airways Dividend Miles frequent flyer program members will now be able to earn bonus miles which will be based on elite status level, fare purchased and a combination of distance flown.

This will be for the first time that American Airlines will be awarding miles based on distance flown and has taken into consideration the ticket prices.

The reports said that AAdvantage and Dividend Mile frequent flyer program members would be rewarded bonus miles when they purchase their first or business class tickets on all the eligible flights operated or marketed by American Airlines or US Airways. The customers taking advantage of this offer will be required to complete their travel effective from January 1 through December 31, 2015.

The airline in a statement said that the eligible flights for AAdvantage and Dividend Mile members include all the flights marketed and operated by American Airlines and US Airways, including the codeshare flights between both the carriers. Apart from this, American Airlines or US Airways-marketed, partner-operated flights, including Qantas Airways, Japan Airlines, Finnair, Iberia and British Airways are also eligible.

Post US Airways merger, the American Airlines Group will be merging the frequent flyer programs of both the carriers in Q2 2015.
