Aussie flyers benefit as business class fares dip 40 percent

The Australian domestic flyers are currently having great times as business class airfares are down 40 percent because of the availability of numerous business class flights.

Lyell Strambi, Chief Executive of Qantas Domestic, the local arm of Qantas Airways, recently briefed the media and said that the customers are the ultimate winners at present. He said that the domestic aviation market in Australia is awash with flights, and passengers are benefiting greatly instead of Aussie carriers.

Media reports said that the flight capacity in the Australian domestic market in the December half is running around 12 percent more than its level in 2011. This has whittled the profitability for carriers which are presently striving to match the supply if seats to demand.

The reports further said that ever since Virgin Australia is engaged into stiff competition with Qantas Airways the prices of business class tickets have fallen significantly to 40 percent in the past year to a 20-year low.
